    Finalist for the Chicago Headline Club's 2017 Peter Lisagor award for "Best Feature Story or Series," for a newspaper with a circulation of less than 100,000, for a story, "Jail suicide highlights complexity of screening inmates for mental illness," examining how a suburban teenager was able to kill himself at a county jail where staff are trained to prevent suicide.

    Second place, with colleague Sarah Freishtat, for our work reporting on questionable deals and spending at the Aurora Housing Authority, a public housing agency in Aurora, Illinois.

    Winner, along with three colleagues, of the Chicago Headline Club's 2016 Peter Lisagor award for "Best Feature Story or Series" for a newspaper with a circulation of less than 100,000, for a story examining the human impact of the Illinois Murderer and Violent Offender Registry, "Little-known Murder Registry Raises Questions of Public Safety, Privacy." The Chicago Headline Club is the area's Society of Professional Journalists chapter, and the Lisagor awards are open to journalists throughout the state. We initially pursued the story for the Naperville Sun, but it also ran in The Chicago Tribune and several of its other suburban newspapers.
